It has to be in progress, it's just too boring to not have it. Both in the Dropship, the LAV, if being realistic is key, then yes we should be shooting outta these Mofos, and throwing nades aimlessly.

just get cover, if a dropship can smash you, then a dropship or anyone else can shoot you. plain and simple, to remove the ability to smash someone who's not taking cover, as you are being shot at. Some would seem they could complain about thin...
